In this one day workshop Becky will show you how to get the bang for your buck through Focus Poetry, songs and Shared Reading and Interactive Read Aloud. These teaching methods create opportunities to explore language and literature with your whole class. Oral language, listening comprehension and fluency are big issues for many teachers.   Rhyme, repetition and rhythm are essential to support phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and fluency in developing readers. We will look at using poems and texts appropriate for shared reading to support not only these aspects of language but also answer the questions of how to embed the teaching of reading strategies that support print work and comprehension as well as exploring the use of grammar, punctuation, poetry elements and literary devices inside of text! We will learn about choosing literature and planning a read aloud to support conversation and listening skills as well as how to support comprehension strands of reading.  Registration fee includes materials to get you started and handout.  Whew!  This will be a packed day of goodness!

All workshops start at 8:30 and end at 3:30.  Cancellations are not allowed but substitutions are welcome.  Please arrive at 8:15 to gather materials and find seating.

If you are expecting a large group from your school it is a good idea to come early if sitting together is important to you.  Dress comfortably and you may want to add layers...buildings can be really cold.
